Read this book over the summer and I have finally had to time to sit down and review it.
I won’t rehash the plot—you can read the blurb for that. What I’d rather do is tell you how this book made me feel.
From the cozy town to the beautifully crafted main and side characters, I fell in love with it all. I was rooting for Alexis and Daniel so fiercely, they felt like friends I wanted to cheer on. And Alexis? Her speech near the end had me swelling with pride. Whether or not she fully understood her worth by the last page, I certainly did. She is amazing!
And don’t even get me started on Daniel. Abby Jimenez has outdone herself with this hero—he’s the kind of good, honorable, kind-hearted person you rarely encounter in fiction, let alone in real life. Daniel’s character is just… unforgettable.
These two characters come from such different worlds, but they somehow find a way to fit together perfectly, and watching them navigate that journey—both individually and together—was such a rewarding experience.
I’m honestly at a loss for words because no matter how much I say, it won’t do this book justice.
If I had to pick one thing that stood out, it’s this: this book is a beautiful reminder that found family can be more meaningful than the one you’re born into.
Trigger warnings: emotional and narcissistic abuse from Alexis’s ex and her parents, and a subplot involving domestic abuse experienced by a secondary character.
